The Hakodate Guide

Introducing Hakodate to the world.

Christopher Scott Webb was born in Seattle and raised in Shoreline. He developed a fondness for Japan after deciding on a whim to study the Japanese language while in college. In the year 2000 he scraped together some cash and bought round trip tickets to Tokyo. He had a lot of fun during his two and a half weeks in Tokyo, and is not too ashamed to admit that he partied like a rock star. However, it was August, and it was humidity like no native Seattleite should be forced to suffer, so he turned his eyes towards the great north.

After graduating from the University of Washington in 2001 with a degree in Business Administration and concentration in Information Systems, he started looking for a job in Japan, and remembering Tokyo's heat, made sure that it was in Hokkaido. Eventually a job offer lured him to Hakodate. At that time, he, like most non-Japanese people, had never heard of Hakodate, and he felt a little nervous about going to live there. His concerns were almost immediately alleviated, however, by the easy-going atmosphere and Hakodate's friendly people.

Writing this guide is his "Thank you!" to the kind people of Hakodate.
